June was a productive and busy month for the Montana Wheat and Barley Committee (MWBC) and we’re so happy and motivated to see such promising crops around most of Montana.
Now that the 2023 legislative session has wrapped up, here’s a quick recap of several of the new laws and the possible impacts to Montana wheat and barley producers.
December was a month full of activity as I settled in as the new Montana Wheat and Barley Committee (MWBC) Executive Vice President. I’m pleased to report that despite a drop in assessment revenues due to successive years of drought, the Committee was able to approve a budget that funds our ongoing research, market development and education outreach goals.
As harvest comes to an end and growers shift their attention to fall planting, I think we owe it to ourselves to take a deep breath and reflect on this past growing season
As lush green fields turn to a shade of golden brown, it becomes apparent August is a month of transition for all of us here in the Treasure State.
Living in Montana can no doubt be a humbling experience filled with its fair share of challenges and curveballs. For generations Montana producers have learned to live in conjunction with the land no matter how difficult that task may be.
For Montana producers, spring is a time of new life and hopes of prosperity. It’s a time when farmers can leave the previous year’s struggles behind them and look toward the optimism a new growing season brings.
It’s official, spring is here and producers from around the state are gearing up for another growing season. I’ve had the opportunity to chat with a few folks from around the state and it appears many are planning to start dropping seed in the ground the first week of April.
Here at the Montana Wheat and Barely Committee we stayed busy during the month of February. We didn’t find ourselves out of the state as much as we did in January, but none the less we were able to attend some notable events.
