2022 Prospective Planting Report Predictions
The last day of March is considered a holiday in our office as the awaited USDA prospective planting numbers are released. The Montana Wheat and Barley Committee (MWBC) staff locked in their guesses. With 1 winner….
The year is certainly set to be a challenging prediction, Black Sea conflicts, costs of production, doubled commodity prices, inflation, shrinkflation, over 12 different crops producers can currently contract, and finally recovering from a historic drought, with continued drought concerns into this spring. Additionally, the Ukraine conflict brings many humanitarian concerns, and providing enough supply to support the world is a top priority.
“Every Treasure State producer has their recipe for success, but current circumstances are certainly some of the most challenging our producers have ever experienced,” said Executive Vice President Cassidy Marn. “The Montana Wheat and Barley Committee is encouraging producers use soil tests, consult with agronomists, and evaluate contracts available to make the best decision for your operation.”
