Anything but average

April Recap

For Montana producers, spring is a time of new life and hopes of prosperity. It’s a time when farmers can leave the previous year’s struggles behind them and look toward the optimism a new growing season brings. No matter the struggles or hurdles that may be faced this year, it’s nothing we haven’t been up against before. After all, Montana is anything but average.

This last month the Montana Wheat and Barley Committee had the chance to speak with students at Great Falls High about jobs in agriculture. We also attended the Gallatin Valley Farm Fair where alongside the Montana State University 4H Extension crew, we taught 4 th graders the story of wheat. These were great opportunities for us to engage students and further our goal of educating Montana’s youth.

And finally, we were able to provide three crop and informational updates to foreign buyers. The first was to brewers in China who are hoping to purchase Montana barley. The other two were hosted by US Wheat Associates and included hard red winter wheat updates for millers in both Japan and Taiwan.
