Serving Grain Buyers and Montana Producers

At the Montana Wheat & Barley Committee, we directly fund research with the goal of developing superior plant varieties and best farm practices for generations to come. We cultivate markets by building trade relationships, through educational outreach, and displaying Montana values.

MWBC is a producer-funded arm of the Montana Department of Agriculture. The Committee conducts activities on behalf of growers such as buyer relations, trade team visits, producer relations, marketing, association engagement, funding research and sponsorships for agriculture education.

Summer MWBC board meeting will be June 22, location TBD.

OUR FOCUS

Learn why wheat and barley grown in Montana is the best quality in the world! Buyers from around the world seek Montana wheat and barley for top quality foods and beverages for today’s demanding consumer. The Committee regularly hosts trade teams that visit Montana’s family farms, where you can experience how Montana’s soil, water and elevation makes a big difference to your products.

Your checkoff dollars fund visits to Montana by more than 1,000 potential wheat and barley buyers each year. The Committee continues to strengthen long-term relationships with our buyers while working closely with our partners to bring new customers to the purchasing table. Your investment in developing these markets has solidified Montana as a premium wheat-producing state known for our quality and consistency.

About 50% of wheat and barley checkoff dollars are invested in research. These priorities include critical efforts such as wheat stem sawfly or genomics; agronomics best practices; combative development against weeks, pests and disease; and end-use innovations.

Montana Wheat and Barley Committee supports supports multiple activities and events to further agriculture education, along with agriculture youth groups such as FFA and 4-H. Educational materials are available on this site, thanks to our partner organizations.
